The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger is just about the best book I have ever read. From the very begginning of the book until the very last words, I could connect with this mysterious character Salinger created. Although Holden was quite hard to figure out, he stil had a very strong sense of humor. With a smart-alec tone to his thoughts you gradually find out his past and his present. In the entire book you embark on a journey to uncover Holden’s true self. In Holden’s mind you go through the same typical midlife crisis a teen would. This was a very good book and deserves a spot on the bookshelf next to the Harry Potter series. I advise anyone of any age to read this book and think whats beyond the words. People have interpreted this in so many ways and theres no entirely correct way. Great Job, Salinger.

CCNP 4 Network Troubleshooting

I read this novel because I love classic works of literature. From Homer to Dostoyevsky to Sartre, I love it all, including modern classics. Naturally, that this book is counted among the modern classics, as well as its association with the assassination of John Lennon, both recommended this book for my reading list. I read it first when I was 17 years old, and again recently at 22. Frankly, I have never quite understood its place on the list of classics as it is often described. Sometimes I think that the only reason it is so popular is because it was banned in many places, in the same way that Ulysses (which I would count as a classic, personally) is so often counted among the Classics by people who have never read it. I’m not a fuddy-duddy or a stuffy classicist: I absolutely adore books with no plot, interesting first-person narration, quirky characters, etc. But I just don’t quite “get it”, and I never have.

Perhaps it is because I simply do not like the character. I didn’t find Holden Caulfield endearing, or witty, or particularly interesting; to be honest, I find him annoying. In fact, of all the characters portrayed in this work, Holden is the one whom I like, or with whom I can identify, the least. He is whiny and foul-mouthed, and uses the words “phony” and “god****” every other paragraph. I am not criticizing Salinger’s writing–in fact, it’s dead on. I had no difficulty whatsoever believing that this was really written by a teenage boy. But it just doesn’t ring any bells, or flip any switches, for me. It’s okay, and not a bad read on a lazy afternoon, but beyond that it falls flat. Perhaps I would have to have grown up during the time period of this novel to really grasp what the author is trying to get across.

Overall, worth reading, but don’t accept its status as a “classic” simply because everyone else does.

Anybody would be foolish to pay more. I bought a bunch of these cables for all of my TV sets. Picture and sound are perfect. I am very satisfied with the quality and performance.

The first unit I received had an issue with the brushes not spinning. I checked everything out the manual said to (verified strong suction, clean filters, etc.) but no dice. Fortunately, Amazon makes exchanges painless and doesn’t stick you with the return shipping charge which would have been hefty on this item.

The replacement unit arrived a few days later. I put it together, turned it on, and hooray this time the brushes were spinning! Then we tried actually using it and found barely any cleaning solution was coming out. If I took off the handle and pushed the lever on the main unit in manually, fluid came out just fine so there seemed to be something wrong with the button on the handle. The rod that operates the lever to release the cleaning fluid worked fine when I operated the button, but as soon as I put any pressure onto the rod it would push back up into the handle. Since it takes a fair amount of pressure to get fluid flowing, this was the problem. Fortunately, this was a pretty easy DIY fix by opening up the handle and shoring up the other end of the rod with some duct tape.

At this point, I finally had a fully functioning unit. It does a great job picking up old stains and the carpet felt nice and soft afterward. The brushes do a good job and make plenty of contact with the carpet. The method suggested in the manual of doing a wet stroke back, a wet stroke forward, and then two dry stores back and forwards works well but chews up the fluid quickly. I found just keeping it simple and doing a wet stroke back and then a dry stroke forward worked equally well in most cases and lets your fluid last twice as long.

All in all, this unit works fine but I’m a little frustrated that I had to deal with two units with very basic defects. If Hoover did any kind of QA on these units they wouldn’t have made it out of the factory, so I really wonder if they actually do any QA. Fortunately, Amazon is on board to help makes things right, as always.

I am very disappointed in my TomTom GO730. I live in southern California near several major freeways, including Interstate 405 and Interstate 605. The TomTom calls I-405 northbound “4 west 5 northbound.” Going south, it says “take 4 west 5 southbound.” For I-605, it says “6 west 5 northbound” (or southbound. I phoned TomTom about this and they told me I could enter a map correction. But the maps are written correctly; the programming just doesn’t interpret “0″ correctly. Also, there are a number of Spanish names in my area like San Diego; the pronunciation is so poor that I’d be lost if I didn’t live here. I have tried more than one TomTom voice. It’s the programming. TomTom support offered no help, and updating the firmware did not correct the errors.

We purchased this as a gift and it did not work, Amazon says they will refund 50-80%. Frustration free packaging means units that have already been opened and returned by others. First time Amazon has ripped me off but we have already started ordering everything elsewhere. Amazon made 20 or so bucks but will lose thousands a year in sales. If you purchase this card test it within 30 days as someone else is going to get my busted card just as someone else before me had this one. Never had a problem with SanDisk and will always pay the extra for the real thing. Bye Bye Transcend AND Amazon.

The readout is immediate upon stepping on the scale. Such a nice, large lighted readout. Very sleek design! I’ve gone from the Dark Ages (with my old scales) into the 21st century with this one!
