Let’s start this off with saying that I thought Holden Caufield, from J. D. Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye, is one of the most disrespectful teens I’ve ever read about. Then I realized that most of his potty mouth or rude comments stay in his head. I though this character reminds me of me sometimes. What he thinks and what he does can be completely different things.

I thought this book was really good. The beginning is a little bit slow but Salinger really must have targeted the teen audience. Though a lot of people think this book should be read by college students, I think anyone in high or even upper middle school would be able to relate.

It makes me wonder what happens to Holden Caufield. I think his experience wandering around New York alone would help him learn that the world doesn’t revolve around him. As a teen I have to admit that at most time I think the same way. I think that Holden has a lot of potential and that he could live up to it if he really strived to. I would recommend this book, its funny and a nonstop page turner.

While everyone is entitled to her own story, as a writer as well as an avid reader, I was amazed at how poorly written and executed this novel was. First and foremost, Stockett’s attempt at “dialect” was woefully inauthentic, and just came across as “bad black English.” (Further, I found it interesting that she choose not write in white Mississipian dialect as well, perhaps wanting us to believe that these counterparts somehow spoke proper, standard Engish.) Thematically, the bathroom motif was overused and became downright boring, as well as Hilly’s, the main antagonist’s, strange and ineradicable rottenness. In this regard, I think Stockett went too much for shock rather than a much needed nuance. I did not feel the urgency at the end of the novel, the fact that if the secret was let out about the book, all hell was going to break loose in Jackson, the likes of which had never been experienced.

If anything, what is minutely redeeming about the novel is the like you develop for the main characters: Aibeleen, Skeeter and Minny. I liken this novel to a sitcom where you may not like every episode, but you nevertheless like the actors. However, since this is obviously not one, the novel, in the end, fails.

Yes.. Pampers Baby Wipes Sensitive

I love these wipes. They are extra gentle on babies with sensitive skin and almost just as good as using water. They are soft and do an excellent job cleaning up. I’ve tried Huggies and others, but I just like these the best because they are so gentle. Plus, when you take out a wipe, you only get one at a time, not several stuck together.

It is unnecessary to spend a bunch of money on an HDMI cable. Seriously. This one performs precisely as an HDMI cable should, transferring audio and video data from the sending device to the receiving device.

I love new technology. I love books. A Kindle satisfies both desires. Choice of books is stunning – some are even free! Wonderful piece of electronic wizardry and now available in UK too. Patricia

No matter how many times I read this book, I am drawn in by the imagination, the creativity, and the enchantment of the tale of Artemis Fowl. The first in a set of five books, I resisted the lure of a 12-yr-old criminal-mastermind for a while, thinking the book too silly for my age. Now I run to the store the moment a new book in this series appears.

Artemis Fowl has a plan to gain back the money his father lost when he disappeared a year ago. Aided by Butler, his body guard, Artemis devises a plan to steal gold from the fairies. Young enough to still believe in magic, but old enough to construct a devious scheme, few could pull off what Artemis is about to do.

Our fairy heroine, Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit, is the test case for allowing female elves to join the Lower Elemental Police recon unit, and she has been having a very bad week. After being attacked by a troll, she attempts to carry out the ritual to recharge her magic, but instead is captured by Artemis and Butler, thus beginning the hostage crisis.

Filled with interesting characters and an excellent usage of magic and technology, Artemis Fowl is a book that readers of any age should enjoy. My favorite part is how Colfer integrates magic and technology, instead of ignoring one in favor of the other, like so many urban fantasy writers do. Instead, Foaly, the centaur super-genius, uses technology to shield magic from human scanners and stay one step ahead of the Mud People.

The book is rich with detail that will keep the reader coming back. It’s been a few years since I last read the book, and I was amazed at how many things I didn’t remember and how I was still enthralled by the action. Even my roommate, who tends to feel that she is above reading “children’s” books, eagerly reads every new Artemis Fowl.

With the release of The Lost Colony, right now is the perfect time to pick up a copy of this classic and reread it. Then continue on to The Artic Incident, The Eternity Code, The Opal Decep

I read this book at a very busy time of my life, when I had only about haft of a month to finish my MS degree of Chemistry (something related to “water”:) No regret at all about spending 1 day to finish reading! Love it, love the characters, love the elephant :)
And, the book became an excellent bedtime story for my husband, who doesn’t like (and doesn’t have time) to read novels at all :)
